Unexpected things I did in 2016

2016, I don’t want to make you feel cocky, but you might just be my fave year so far. Never in my wildest dreams could it have been the way it was: filled with fun trips, exciting projects, meeting new people… I’ve summed up a few very unexpected things I did in this year below.

Rent an office

In February I started renting a flex desk at Hashtag Workmode, an office space for creative female entrepreneurs. I had no idea what to expect of it, but after talking to a few girls I know that rent a spot there, I figured it was worth a shot. I was already making money with my blog, so I thought it might just be good to invest a little too. To be honest this is one of the best decisions I made this year and it really helped me professionalize. The girls in this office helped me out when I was stuck and also really helped me believe that this blog isn’t just a hobby project, but that it’s a real business that is worth something.

Join a tv show

I feel like this started last year, since we did two seasons already. But it’s really this year! I joined Fashionchick’s Elke Dag Een Look tv show, an easy and short show to inspire women all over the Netherlands on what to wear today. This has been such a fun experience and I’m happy to be a part of it. Fingers crossed that there will be more episodes to come next year!

Cutting my hair shorter

I think I surprised a lot of people with this one. After having *almost* knee long hair I was completely fed up with it. It took hours to wash, styling was very limited and after some consideration I knew it was time for a change. So I called up my talented friend Blanca who always does my hair and we just cut it. We were both curious and scared about everyone’s reaction, but you have all been so lovely about it. And to be honest I haven’t regretted cutting my hair for one second!

I started vlogging

Or at least I tried. A lot of bloggers in The Netherlands started vlogging this year and because of FOMO I decided to jump on the bandwagon. I have 2 vlogs up on my Youtube Channel now and really enjoyed making them. In case you haven’t watched them, have a look on my channel and let me know what you think! The downside of vlogging is that it’s super time consuming to edit the videos. I recently went to a Youtube workshop though and this inspired me to give it another try. Let’s see what I’ll do in 2017!

Hire people

What do you do when you can’t do everything yourself anymore? Or when you feel things can be better?  You hire someone! Makes sense, but to me this was quite exciting to do. This year I worked with different photographers to create different types of photoshoots. My favourite one was this one above for Escada, for which I worked with a team of a photographer, a hair stylist & a make-up artist. These types of shoots are really different than what I usually do, but I’m sure I will continue working on stuff like this in the new year. And speaking of hiring people: next year I’ll be searching for an intern. So if this is something that might interest you be sure to email me on iris [at]adashoffash.com. I haven’t put out a vacancy yet, so you’ll be one of the first to respond!

Go abroad 16 times

Wait, what?! Yup, went through my pictures and counted: I went abroad 16 times last year! What can I say, I just love travelling. Going new places always inspires me and keeps me energized. My highlights included visiting all-time favourite New York together with my bestie, discovering Mykonos and going to Sicily with Armani – a trip that included a mindblowing helicopter ride. I am not sure how many times I’ll be going abroad next year, but have already planned some exciting trips. Including Mexico & Japan! Literally can’t wait.

Buy my first designer bag (and 2nd… and 3rd)

One of my most loved posts this year was this honest one in which I told you my story about where I came from. I told you I never owned any designer bags because I never had the means to. Then a while after I was so happy to buy my first one: the Gucci Dionysus. I still love and wear this bag and it has been such a good purchase. After that I went a little overboard and a few other bags entered my home. I guess buying beautiful quality bags can be a bit addictive! But after being without any for so long I had to catch up a little bit, don’t you think? I’m not sure if I’ll be doing the same next year, I might just sell a few again and invest in travelling instead. But I can’t promise anything 🙂

But enough about me! How was your 2016? Can’t wait to hear from you in the comments!
