The best of autumn fashion in 2015

Transitioning from summer to autumn is an exciting time for fashion lovers pretty much every year, and 2015 is no exception. Actually, the range of trends making their way into popular collections this year feels greater than I’ve ever seen, which means your autumn and winter wardrobe update could be even more fun than usual!

There’s really a whole lot to choose from, but below are some of the autumn trends that are my personal fave.

The Return Of Mod

The “Mod” look – as worn in England since the 1960s – is one of those super-specific fashion sub-genres that never seems to completely disappear. That is to say, you pretty much always look like you know what you’re doing if you’re out and about in full Mod. Nevertheless, this autumn, Mod is expected to be a highlight. Real Simple explained why in seven steps, essentially pointing out that some of the matching colour schemes, sharp accessories, light jackets, and even cosy turtlenecks all fit in with the look of the season.

Faux Fur For All

Somewhat like Mod, faux fur never completely disappears for the cold days. You might have seen bits and bobs on scarves or boots, or full on faux fur winter coats. But in 2015, faux fur is perhaps more important than ever, it’s appearing on pretty much everything! Coats, jackets, handbags, scarves, and even stoles and the exteriors of handbags and shoes—you name it, and you can find it in faux fur.

Floral Print Dresses

When thinking of florals most of us tend to think of spring and summer, but floral dresses are actually strangely popular in this autumn’s collections as well. The display of autumn dresses at Lyst is one of the more diverse groups of styles out there, featuring a number of cuts and fabrics—maxi dresses, wraps, velvet materials, etc.—that every fashion forward girl will be wearing this autumn. And yet looking through them all, one of the most consistent details is that almost every style is available in a floral print! Go figure; flowers have invaded autumn.

Pretty In Plaid

You know how I love rocking a plaid look? Well, plaid is showing up on everything this autumn in outfits and accessories and in an endless range of colour patterns. Vogue showed off numerous examples in dresses, gloves, outerwear, casual shirts, and even one beautifully unique metallic tote bag. There’s always something comforting about plaid in cold weather, and as you can see it’s as fashionable as it is comfy in 2015.

Super High Boots

As I mentioned when talking about one of my favourite footwear trends of the autumn 2015 season, we’re actually seeing a lot of shoes with fur exteriors. But another awesome trend in cold weather shoes is… above-the-knee (and even thigh-high) boots! I’ve seen them in a lot of collections and obviously love them. Paper City took the trend even further, making note of a Dior collection that even featured skin-tight thigh-high boots. This look has been unleashed by a few mainstream designers, and if you ask me it kinda looks like they combine boot and stockings for colder weather.

That should get your seasonal wardrobe transition off to a good start! All things taken into account, we’re heading into a season full of classic comfort and retro appeal. What’s not to love?!
