Here it is: my last batch of Berlin pics! On the third day of our four day trip we went to the Night + Day Festival, curated by my favourite band the XX. They added a few of their favourite artists to the line-up and had local restaurants taking care of the gastronomic part. I was a bit disappointed that they didn’t add Solange to the line-up like they did for the London version, since I have seen Jessie Ware perform live before (I even actually met her, go see my Instagram for awesome proof) and Solange is definitely on my to see list and I would have loved to see Solange and the XX do that mash-up they did at Coachella.
I got to see Mount Kimbie, Chromatics and Jessie Ware perform live. The latter returned during the performance of the XX, doing a totally awesome mash-up of Mojo – Lady and Stardust – Music Sounds Better With You. This was the fifth time of seeing the XX and they never seem to disappoint.
This time they did a lot of remixes, led by the genius Jamie XX. Unfortunately I wasn’t allowed to bring my camera, otherwise I would definitely have taken loads of pictures of the location: an abandoned themepark. Think rusted rollercoaster rides, an immense ferris wheel and huge plastic animals in random places. Totes amazeballs ;-).
On the bright side this is perfect cinema weather, so I *finally* got to see The Great Gatsby yesterday. This version of the well-known story is less about the storyline and more about the art-direction and the music. You can tell Jay-Z was one of the executive producers as it features loads of his and wifey BeyoncĂ©’s songs. I love films that are there to please my ears and eyes, so this didn’t bother me at all. I have to say this is a very entertaining movie and I’ll probably watch it again in a few weeks. I loved the whole melancholic feel of the film and the melody lines of the XX – Together (soz for being a complete fanboy) which were repeated throughout the whole movie definitely added to this.
Enjoy your sunday!
