5 things to love about Amsterdam

I freaking love Amsterdam and enjoy every minute I spend there. I work in the city, have a lot of friends there, plus I do a photoshoot – like the one you’re looking at – there every once in a while. When I was a little girl it was my dream to live in this city one day. But as house prices are going up by the minute that probably isn’t going to happen.  I’m only a 15 minute train ride away from that city I love so much though, so it’s all fine. What’s there to love you wonder? Don’t get me started! Here’s 5 of the main reasons:

It’s the Venice of Northern Europe
Or so they say. All of the canals make this place one of a kind. If you’re ever in the Dam I can really recommend going on a boat tour, even if that’s the most tourist-y thing you can think of and even if you live in the capital. It’ll make you see it from a whole other perspective – literally.

So Instagrammable
The main reason to visit Amsterdam for online influencers. But even if you’re not a blogger this city will upgrade your social media feed in a few taps. My favourite hashtags to use when gramming the Dam are: #gramthedam (obviously), #iamsterdam, #amstergram and just plain ol’ #amsterdam.

Coffee walhalla
If you want to keep up with the pace of a big city, you’re going to need some caffeine. All Amsterdammers love their bakkie leut and that’s why you’ll be able to find a cool coffee place on every street corner. My favourites are Coffee & Coconuts, it’s huge and has the most awesome decoration and Caffé Il Momento – you should try their cookies.

The je ne sais quoi streetstyle
The general Dutch attitude towards fashion is doe maar normaal, dan doe je al gek genoeg, which translates to something like being normal is crazy enough. This can also be seen in the way most people from Amsterdam dress: very casual and minimalistic. Ever since I’m working in Amsterdam I’ve learned to take it down a notch and appreciate the classics.

It’s small & big at the same time
The size of Amsterdam is pretty small compared to other international cities and the architecture gives it quite the small town feel. Still, there’s plenty of things to do and see to keep you entertained. Each neighbourhood has it perks, so if you’re planning a city trip to Amsterdam exploring one area a day would be a great plan.

I’m really curious to hear if you love Amsterdam and why. Be sure to leave a comment!
