Find out what you stand for
Grab a notepad and start asking yourself questions. What do you enjoy doing? What are you proud of? What is that one thing your friends always ask you about? This can be really helpful; you’ll be passionate about the things you’re good at and the things you’re helping your friends with can be helpful for your readers as well. All of those things should be the core of your blog.
Social media
Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest… I think we all have a favourite we’re totally addicted to. If your blog is visual you’ll turn to Pinterest or Instagram and if you’re a story teller Twitter’s where you’ll keep the conversation going. So your blog is the main course, but social media can be -very tasty- side dishes. This is where you can post all the things that tell your brand story. If you’re a girly girl, post all the cute kitties, new glittery shoes and pretty flowers in the world. Find a filter that fits your style and remain consistent. I’m all about happiness so all of my images are light & bright, but if you’re a dreamy person you could go for a soft filter. Make sure your feed represents your brand and your followers will be more likely to visit your blog!
Stay true to yourself
Having a blog is the perfect way to represent yourself online. Of course you can represent anything you like, but the easiest way is by staying true to yourself. If you’re not 100% loving it, it will not feel genuine. You may be (subconsciously or purposefully) influenced by other bloggers you admire, but be careful not to copy them. This makes you less reliable & authentic while it’s important to build trust within your community.
Find fitting collaborations
So you’re gaining internet fame and brands come knocking on your door. Obviously you’ll feel incredibly flattered that they want to work with you. But always ask yourself: ‘Would I buy this if I didn’t get it for free/get paid for it?’. If the answer’s yes, then that’s awesome! Building a long-term relationship with one of your fave brands can be very valuable for you and your readers. It will grant you access to exclusive content and make both brands stronger. If the answer’s no it can be hard to turn down, but accepting random freebies is not the best idea. It might actually make you look desperate and that’s not a good look, now is it?
Be an expert
Whatever your personal brand may be, make sure it sticks with people. Make it the reason people will visit your blog over and over again. Master whatever it is you do.
But who am I to tell you what to do? If you yourself have anything to add or confirm, please say so in the comment section!
