Not sure if I mentioned this on this blog any earlier, but I’ve lived in Rotterdam for a while. I got accepted into art academy and really wanted to have my own place, so I moved to the city. It’s not the most beautiful city in the Netherlands, but I definitely enjoyed living there. With it’s creative, Berlinesque atmosphere and architectural highlights reminiscent of NYC, this city really is one of a kind. I frequent the city every once in a while and still know my way around. It’s been over 3 years since I lived there and it already feels like another lifetime!
This time I went to Rotterdam to visit the exhibition The Future Of Fashion Is Now at Boijmans van Beuningen. I love seeing fashion exhibitions like this, seeing work made by designers I admire and learning about new designers. It did help me realize that most of the fashion I admire is because of nice fabrics, patterns and trends. Because whenever there’s a story behind a collection it involves cliches like ‘the media makes everyone feel bad about their body’. I felt like these type of stories actually weakened the designs, but it was an interesting exhibition nonetheless. At night I went to a concert by Thomas Azier, an electropop artist you should definitely give a listen!
I always find a reason to visit Rotterdam a.k.a. Roffa a couple of times a year, so I wonder what my next reason will be.. 🙂
