Amsterdam Fashion Week is always a fun event to attend. It’s nice to see local talent, run into acquaintances or even make new friends. I only went to a couple of shows on Saturday and Sunday and was pleasantly surprised. Here’s a little overview of all shows I attended and what I thought of them. Can you believe these shows are all of 2015 collections? It just sounds so futuristic! Spijkers & Spijkers This show is inspired by Josephine Baker, her love for Art Deco and her pet cheetah ‘Chiquita’. It was just very fun and made me want to have every item. I mean, animal prints and pink trench coats? Gimme, gimme gimme!
Vibrant Pakistan Not one show, but 5 shows in one, showing 5 totally different styles. I loved how it went from Bollywood dancing to sleek tailoring. Rang Ja showed flirty, fun and chic. Bareeze Man showed preppy, clean cut looks with royal blue and army print as surprising elements. Kinda made me wanna buy everything for my boyfriend. Shahnameh was a modern take on traditional tailoring. Then there was Leisure Club, showing a mixture of modern Pakistani retailers and my personal fave: Kayseria, with beautiful and creative prints.
Dorhout Mees What’s not to love about Dorhout Mees? Beautiful fabrics, prints and cuts, a feast for the eyes really. I love how each and every one of her shows starts with a very well produced mood video, showing her inspiration. This years inspiration involves water crystals.
Tony Cohen Besides showcasing beautiful feminine garments, this show also introduced the first collection of TONYCOHEN MAN. I’ve seen previous collections of TONYCOHEN and always thought they were a little edgy, but this time around a lot of the dark leather got replaced by light silky fabrics. I saw a lot of must-haves, including the big hats obviously. Did you get to see any of the shows? Which one was your favourite?
